Publication date: October 20th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:

Lucy York is an aspiring mechanical engineer working as a shot girl serving watered-down drinks to drunken frat boys at Jezebel’s Bar & Lounge. The job isn’t so bad—it pays her bills, and she’s managed to make a surrogate family for herself at the bar. But now, at 24, she’s ready to spread her wings and fly north to attend UC Berkeley and, maybe, distance herself a little from the all-consuming social scene at Jezebel’s.
Then her boss hires a new bouncer, Norm, a literature dork who seems like everything a bouncer shouldn’t be: tall, gangly, sweet (and, you know, named Norman). But as she gets to know him, ol’ Norm turns out to be everything Lucy never knew she wanted and the best friend she’s ever had. He’s not a bad bouncer either.
One obstacle to their happily ever after: the owner has a strict no-dating rule for employees. If anyone at Jezebel’s finds out she’s dating a bouncer, Lucy will lose her job, her surrogate family, and the money she needs to go to Berkeley.
But, if she loses Norm, is she losing her best chance at happiness?

Review:

Excerpt:

“You’re the big boss.” She looked up at me and smiled. She was dressed in a cheap cotton shirt and jeans that should be on the burn pile, but that smile was pure gold. This girl had guts.

“I told José he was a fool to try and cheat you,” she said. “I wasn’t part of it, and I don’t work for you. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

She’d heard about our policy protecting bystanders. Of course it doesn’t apply to anyone whose eyewitness testimony can put me in a courtroom. Well, try to put me in a courtroom. In Mexico nobody would dare accuse me, and I’ve enough resources in England to guarantee a police investigation would come to nothing, but it’s not my style to take chances. Solitaire would be going into the ground along with Escamilla.

“Mr Vazquez,” Solitaire gave me her best smile. “I don’t expect something for nothing.” She dropped her voice. “You’d like me,” she whispered. “I’ve heard about you. We’re the same.” “Are we?”

“Yes, I can make you very happy.” She brushed my hand over her cheek and then kissed my palm. “I’m a very good girl,” she said quietly. “Unless you prefer a naughty one?” She sucked my thumb, and I was instantly rock hard.

  2. In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat 1/2 cup butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add egg; beat until smooth. With mixer on low, alternately add flour mixture and applesauce, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix just until smooth (do not overmix).
  3. Drop dough by heaping tablespoons, 2 inches apart, onto two baking sheets. Bake until a toothpick inserted in the center of a cookie comes out clean, 10 to 14 minutes. With a thin metal spatula, immediately transfer cookies to a wire rack; let cool completely.
  4. Meanwhile, make filling: In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat vanilla and remaining 1/2 cup butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add confectioners sugar, beating until smooth.
  5. Spread bottom of half the cookies with 1 tablespoon filling each; sandwich with remaining cookies, pressing gently so filling oozes out slightly. Sprinkle exposed filling with nonpareils. Let rest 15 minutes to set.

I Scream Sandwitches

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 large egg whites
  • 1 cup superfine sugar
  • 6 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • Pinch of salt
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 ounces semisweet chocolate, melted

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Put egg whites and sugar in the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment; mix 30 seconds. Mix in flour, cocoa, and salt. Mix in butter, cream, and vanilla; mix 30 seconds.
  2. Bake cookies: Using plastic lids or heavy card stock, cut out 1 circle (2 3/4 inches in diameter) and 1 half circle (4 1/2 inches long). Using the outlines as stencils, spread dough on a Silpat baking mat with an offset spatula to make 4 circles and 2 half circles. Transfer mat to a baking sheet; bake cookies until starting to set, 6 to 7 minutes.

  3. Shape cones: Remove half circles with an offset spatula while still hot. With straight sides of cookies facing up, quickly bring edges together to form cones, holding until set. Repeat three more times with remaining dough.

  4. Make sandwitches: Dip cones in melted chocolate to coat 1/4 inch of rims. Place cones on 8 whole cookies; press 1 candy onto band of each hat. Freeze until set, 10 to 20 minutes. Brush remaining 8 whole cookies on one side with melted chocolate. Freeze until set, 10 to 20 minutes. Cut ice cream using technique described above. Place on coated cookies; top with hats.

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Pulse together pecans and oats in a food processor until finely ground. Melt butter in a small saucepan. Add sugars and honey and cook over medium heat, stirring, until sugars are melted and mixture is simmering, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in pecan mixture, flour, salt, and cinnamon. Transfer to a bowl and refrigerate until firm, about 30 minutes.

“You can put me down now.” Charlie’s heart was pounding—she wasn’t sure why. “I mean, I really am fine.”
“No you’re not. You’re wounded. And I must heal you.”
The look in his eyes was beyond intense as he cupped her cheek.
“But…” Charlie started to protest, her heart pounding.
“Open to me.” His voice had gone deep and soft and commanding. “Open  and let me heal you, Charlotte.”
“I…” But further words of protest seemed to die on her lips as he bent her over his arm and sealed his mouth to hers.
Charlie gave a little gasp as she felt his lips press gently but firmly to hers. Then his tongue was there, tracing the seam of her lips, seeking entrance. She wanted to pull away and cuss at him—tell him he had no right. Instead she felt her lips parting, allowing him in when she knew she shouldn’t.
He’s just healing me, she told herself desperately. It’s not really a kiss. But it certainly felt like one, especially when his tongue entwined with hers and he sucked gently, as though inviting her to explore his mouth as he was exploring hers.
Charlie gave a helpless little moan and took his unspoken invitation. God, his mouth was so warm and he tasted like cinnamon—cinnamon and some exotic mint she’d never had before. She could feel the edges of his fangs but this time he somehow managed to keep from cutting her with them even when the tip of her tongue danced dangerously over their razor-sharp points. The kiss went on and on and his dark, spicy scent filled her senses until Charlie felt like she was drowning in him, being completely consumed from the inside out.

REVIEW

Captivated 4 stars

Letting Go by Megan Hart 3,5 stars

This is the first time I'm reading a book from Megan Hart. While I find the story has good potential and I find the sex hot I had issues with the heroine who was talking all the time for her ex husband and this was getting on my nerves! This is the mane reason why I give it only 3,5 stars. Also another problem I had is that the beginning was slow.Lucky for her Jesse kept my interesting till the end..

The story begins with Colleen, who has recently come out of a bad marriage with an abusive man and now that she is alone, still she must deal with him.She goes to a bar where she meets Jessee the barman.Jesse is younger than her and he has a child.I really liked Jesse a lot,he is charming, funny and cute. The sex is hot!! Or better I could say super hot, with the roles to be changed and Colleen to be the one who have control of their bedroom affair
Overall it was a nice story and definitely I'm going to check more books from Megan Hart!!

SEIZE THE NIGHT

Seize the Night by Tiffany Reisz 4,5 stars

I'm a big fan of Tiffany Reisz,so I couldn't wait to read this book!!Like I have said so many times always I'm mesmerized by the way this author write amazing stories! Each story is unique! In this book she managed to retell Romeo & Juliet in a sexy way!!And like all her books there are funny moments!

Remi and Julien has spent a scandalous evening before 4 years. And this causes problem to their families..Remi decides to stay away from him until the moment she needs his help...When they meet again,Remi discover that she still has feelings for him..

I liked this new version of Romeo and Juliet!I liked that Tiffany use older heroines and younger heroes.(Like Wesley and Nora from The Original Sinners) same here. The heroine is 26 and the hero 22.I'm not fan of this age difference but still it's interesting ;) Also I always loved Tifanny's heroines! Remi is strong, smart and sexy!

EXCERPT
“How was your day?” she asked, with the intimacy of a long married couple.

I crossed to the bed and sat beside her, inhaled her scent, the intoxicating mix of expensive bath products and her unique underlying flavor.

“It was good,” I replied and felt her lean towards me. She pressed her little body against mine with such a familiarity that for a moment I almost dropped my guard and flipped her over on the bed for a fuck.

Instead I lifted my arm and let her snuggle in, cozy herself against me and hoped she didn’t feel my heart throbbing against my ribcage in surging desire.

“I was kinda bored,” she said, “is there any way to get cable in here? Maybe internet access? I’ve watched all the DVDs you provided and I’ve read every book a couple of times over.”

That was impressive, I hadn’t thought her the type to read so quickly. She’d been with me almost two weeks now and didn’t seem like the brightest bulb in the box, as they said.

“No cable,” I told her, not wanting her to see the recent coverage on the disappearances from the Waffle House, hers included. “I’ll get you Netflix, how’s that? You can watch movies and TV and such.”

“Sounds good,” she replied, “any chance of wifi or a tablet or something?”

“Not yet,” I said, “Billy’s still out there, who knows where he’ll be watching and waiting to find you. He’s apparently pissed that you got away. I’ve heard through the grapevine that he’s willing to pay top dollar to have you killed.”

She flinched when I said it and dropped her gaze to the floor. “Did you talk to him? Did he…say anything?”

“I haven’t spoken to him directly, I’ve just heard things. You don’t still…care for him, do you?”

“Oh god, no. I don’t know why I wasted so much time with him in first place. I’m so embarrassed that I stuck with him, that you saw…”

Her voice trailed off and she felt stiff against me. She was highly self-conscious of her terrible choices, her shitty background and her impoverished upbringing.
Perfect.
I could deconstruct her and rebuild her into the kind of women she should be. The kind of woman who was worthy of being my Pet.
I had about a month to work on her before the wedding. I promised myself two weeks and I’d be taking her to meet the parents.
A month and she’d meet all my friends, be brought into my social circle and seal my status as normal and right on target.
I squeezed her and moved to get up. Her eyes snapped up to my face and she whispered, “Please don’t leave me, don’t go.”
“Don’t you have enough food? Are you running out of pain meds?”
“It’s not that,” she replied.
“What is it?”
She didn’t reply right away so I hooked my thumb under he chin and pulled her to face me. Her startlingly blue eyes were wet with unshed tears. “I don’t want to be alone,” she said, “Please stay with me. Hold me tonight.”
How could I tell her no? How could I deny her my touch?
I thought about the girl strapped to the table in the warehouse and calculated my odds. She should still be alive by the time I went to her again. For that night I decided to hold my Pet, I caressed her and let her presence wash over me, dispelling the red tide that was rising in me even as I sat back down beside her.
She leaned against me again, my beautiful girl, exquisite in her naked vulnerability.
So delicate and so fragile.
So easy to crush if I gave in, just said fuck it and let the red heat rise.
But I didn’t. I fought it and I fell.
Even farther in love.

 MY REVIEW

3.5 Stars!

That freaking cliffy! My mind is working overtime trying to imagine what Jude has discovered.

Now firstly unlike Volume One, this installment takes a darker and morose turn, I'm really worried about Jude. He's trying to fight his dark urges and Detective Donovan Blake is desperate to find and expose the Cascades Killer by any means possible. Even if he has to bait him and risk even more lives being lost. Jude is torn between wanting to kill Ronnie and wanting to protect her from his dark urges.

"You don't know what? I asked and pulled her hands behind her back. "You don't know if you want my cock inside of you? Do you feel guilty for wanting it so bad? For wanting to fuck a killer?"

Once again the story has multiple POV's from the following characters.
1. Jude
2. Donovan Blake
3. Ronnie
and a new character
4. Patty Wilson

Now I spent almost half this book trying to figure out Patty Wilson's relevance to the story. I went from thinking her POV was flashbacks, but by the end of the story her relevance was revealed and I couldn't decide whether or not I liked her. Okay so you're probably wondering why the half star in my rating, yes? Well I missed the dark humour that was in the first installment. Understandably this book was psychologically darker, and Jude is becoming more desperate, the poor sod is trying to change... But I missed his screwed up sense of funny.

So delicate and so fragile.
So easy to crush if I gave in, just fuck i and let the red heat rise.
But I didn't. I fight and I fall.
Even farther in love.

Volume Two ends with a dramatic flair, and I know as a reader the next book is going to blow me away with secrets and revelations.

"the moment of death was my aphrodisiac, not the corpse, not the after effect.
